Just an update of the six months since our girl turned two!
Stats:
Mia is in the 72nd percentile for height and the 67th for weight. She’s gained roughly 2 pounds and grown a little over 2 inches since turning 2. She’s mostly in 3T clothes, especially for shirts, but there are still some 2T things that will fit her. She wears anywhere from a 7-8.5 in shoes depending on the brand. Her hair has gotten quite a bit longer, but she still has those sweet baby curls at the ends. I don’t want to cut her hair! She finally has all of her baby teeth, so I think we’ve finally seen the end of teething! Hallelujah! She’s also transitioned to sitting forward facing in her car seat in the car.

Schedule:
Her schedule hasn’t changed too much since the last post. She generally wakes up between 7 and 8 in the morning and goes down for nap around 1 pm. Her naps last about 1.5 hours on average, sometimes more, sometimes less. She refuses to take naps at school (at least not more than 30 minutes), so generally at least once a week she either doesn’t nap or takes a very short nap. I’m really determined to keep her napping as long as possible, because the days she doesn’t nap, she gets really cranky and loopy acting in the afternoons. Bedtime is still 8 pm, but she has been fighting going to sleep as of late. We’ve had to shift up the time of her bedtime routine a bit to compensate.

Since then though, pretty smooth sailing. She still has accidents every now and again, but she’s usually pretty good about letting us know when she needs to go. She stopped wearing pull-ups at nap, but does still wear them to bed at night. We’re planning to do her nighttime training here in the next few months though because she’s waking up dry about 75% of mornings.

She continues to improve with utensils, though she still
likes using her hands to feed more than I’d like. I really do think at this
point that it’s just a preference thing for her, not an inability to use
utensils.
She’s slowing getting more coordinated with walking and
running, and I can let her play at the playground now without having to follow
her around the whole time making sure she doesn’t fall or otherwise injure
herself.
She’s getting much better with playing with others. I think
school is to thank for this, at least partially.
I’ve bragged on her vocabulary before, but it really is
huge. The part that amazes me the most is that when she hears a word she
doesn’t understand, she’ll ask what it means. Crazy!
“Why” is one of her favorite words. She is super
inquisitive.
Tantrums have gotten fewer in frequency, but more intense in
magnitude. Sometimes I just have to let her calm herself down alone in her room
because nothing else works. I won’t miss the terrible twos.
She can count to 20 (most of the time) and knows her ABCs.
She can identify about 80% of upper case letters. She also knows how to spell
her name, and when she sees it written, she can identify it.
She likes to mimic scenes from movies with her toys. This is
fun to watch. She also incorporates things she knows into play (such as “this
doll is Elsa’s mommy!”, or she’ll wear gloves when she’s pretending to be
Elsa).
She’s starting to understand the relationships between
people, and not just as how they relate to her (i.e. she knows her Nana is also
my mom, etc.).
Big Events:
We went on a cruise about a week after her birthday. Considering her schedule was out of whack the whole time, she actually did very well, and had very few potty accidents. We had a lot of fun and made tons of memories!

She made the move from crib to toddler bed! Overall it’s
gone well so far, though there are some nights when she repeatedly climbs out
of bed and I miss the confinement of her crib!
She took a dance/gymnastics class over the summer and really
liked it. It took her a few weeks to warm up to the idea, but after that point
she was always really excited to go.
We had to put our dog, Luna, to sleep back in June. This was
really hard for us, but thankfully Mia took it well. We told her that Luna went
to live with other puppies so that she could be happy. We’ve since adopted a
new dog, and Mia loves him!
She got hand/foot/mouth in July. It actually wasn’t too bad,
she had a fever for about 2 days and the sores lasted about a week, but she
didn’t express much pain. She was kind enough to share it with me, however. ;-)
Mia’s auntie was traveling for about 3.5 months over the
summer and early fall. We missed her a lot, but Mia loved hearing about all of
her adventures with the animals!
Starting preschool! She goes to a MDO (mother's day out) program once a week
and she absolutely loves it! She gets so excited when I tell her it’s a school
day. The very first day she didn’t cry; at least not until I picked her up to
go home!
We’ve taken 2 shorter road trips, to Stephenville for a
graduation and to San Antonio for a wedding. We also spent a long weekend at
the Hyatt Lost Pines resort for my birthday. She generally does well in the
car, but still won’t really nap if we’re on the road.

Songs: Mia still really enjoys music. I have a Disney station on Pandora that she frequently requests. She loves to sing songs from Frozen, Moana, Beauty and the Beast, and Tangled. Sometimes she combines lyrics from all of her favorite movies into one song! At night she usually requests I sing “Twinkle, twinkle little star”, “Rock-a-by baby” or “You are my sunshine”.
Food: cheese, berries, popcorn, applesauce, yogurt, mac and cheese, cupcakes (but really mostly frosting), and most any carb
Toys: Wolfie! Baby dolls, blocks, her doctor kit, her princess dolls, any dress she can get her hands on, jewelry
Shows: Bubble Guppies, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Sofia the First
Movie(s): Beauty and the Beast, Moana, Frozen and Tangled
