Stats:
Weight: 16 pounds 3 ounces, which puts him in the 24th percentile. He seems to be hanging out between the 20th and 25th percentile pretty consistently now. We’ll see if he moves any more with the introduction of solids!

Height: 27 inches, 52nd
percentile
Size: 9 month clothes and size
2 diapers
Appearance: Nate definitely
looks more like a baby now and less like a newborn. His cheeks are chunkier and
his hair is mostly filled in. His hair is a slightly lighter shade of red than
Mia’s was (closer to strawberry blonde). His eyes are a very pretty shade of
blue and he has amazing eyelashes! He also now has 2 teeth on the bottom.
Food:
We are still doing a
combination of nursing and bottle feeding, exclusively breastmilk. He eats
about every 3-3.5 hours and takes about 7 ounces per feeding when he bottle
feeds. Nursing is hit and miss. Some days he wants to nurse 2-3 times for 30
minutes each time. Other days, I’ll only get him to nurse a total of 5 minutes.
I try to just follow what he seems to be wanting. Regardless of his method of
eating, he is an extremely distracted eater. If I feed him in a room where
anyone else is, he’s more interested in what’s going on than eating. We did
start solids on the day he turned 6 months, but I’ll delve into that more in
the next post!
Sleep:
Overall sleep has improved
this month. He’s up to about 9-10 hours of sleep at night. Really my only
complaint on this front is he refuses to go to bed any earlier than about 9:30
(most nights, it’s 10-10:30). Eventually it’s my goal for him to go to bed at
the same time as Mia (between 7:30 and 8), but I guess it’s going to be a
gradual progression. My hope is that with the introduction of solids, he’ll be
able to sleep more. He usually wakes up between 7 and 8 am.
Naps have definitely improved this past month, but still not quite where I’d like. He stopped going back to sleep right after his first morning feed, and now stays awake for about 2 hours before wanting to go back to sleep. This is generally his longest nap of the day (usually about 1.5 hours). Most days, he’ll take 1 or 2 afternoon naps, and then sometimes one evening nap. The afternoon nap(s) are anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, but the evening nap (usually around 8pm) rarely lasts longer than 45 minutes. We’re doing a lot better with crib napping, but he still requires a lot of soothing to get down most times.
Now that Mia is done with school and dance for the summer, I’m hoping to get on a consistent sleep schedule. I feel like this will be aided greatly by the fact that he now has sleep cues! When he’s tired, he’ll pull his ears, rub his eyes, and babble a lot.

Milestones:
Nate now has 2 teeth! The
bottom 2 front teeth have come in! I feel like he’s really close to getting a
third as well.
He is army crawling
EVERYWHERE. He really loves being able to move. One of his favorite things is
for me to put him on the floor and just let him move all over. A few times, he’s
gotten up on all fours and rocked back and forth, but no actual crawling yet.
Lots and lots of talking! He’s
added a few consonant sounds (mmm, gah, goo, wah, dah, bah).
Starting solids (more next
month).
He still loves standing and
jumping.
He can sit up for a few
seconds unsupported.
No ‘stranger danger’ yet, but
he really hates it if he can’t see us (I’d say his order of preference is me,
big sister, Jason).
We’ve started signing basic
signs with him (the same ones we did with Mia, but we’ve also added ‘sister’).
He definitely already knows what the ‘milk’ sign means!
Things I want to remember
about this month:
First mother’s day with 2
babies!
We celebrated Mia’s 4th
birthday with lots of family in town! Such a special time for us.
Nate went to the pool for the
first time! He didn’t love it (the water was pretty cold) but he looked
adorable.
He is ALWAYS looking for Mia.
It is SO precious how much he loves his sister.
I love that he still lets me
snuggle.
His favorite things:
Big sister, snuggling, banging
toys on everything, balls, toys with rattles, being tickled, when mama sings to
him, shrieking, chewing on everything, daddy’s beard, sleeping on his stomach
And now, the pictures!
Big sister shared her lovey at the eye doctor
Happy mother's day!
First solid food (carrots)
First trip to the pool
