Nate, Months 19-21

Stats:

Weight: just over 27 pounds

Height: no idea because he won’t hold still long enough!

Size: He can still fit into some 24 month shirts and PJs, but we’ve mostly transitioned to 2T. He’s still in 18 month shorts though. They’re getting a little short on him length-wise, but still fit around the waist. He’s in size 5 diapers and either 5 or 6 for shoes.

Appearance: He now has all of his teeth, minus his two year molars. I don’t really think those are far off though, because in the last week or so he’s been grumpy and drooling a whole bunch. He’s still very long and lanky just like his daddy and sister. He’s definitely gotten bigger since the last post.

Food:

No changes here really. He’s still a really good eater for the most part. He loves pasta, rice, peanut butter, fruit, ‘fry fries’ (French fries), and anything sweet.

Sleep:

The only thing that’s really changed about his sleep is that, for the most part, his nap has gotten shorter. It’s usually 1-1.5 hours each day. Sometimes we’ll get lucky and he’ll sleep longer. He sleeps really well at night for the most part, and still about 12ish hours. He has been sleeping in a little more in the mornings too.

His eat/sleep schedule:
7:30-8a – wake up and have breakfast
8-11ish – play, go for a walk
12:00ish – lunch
1-2:30 - nap
3ish– snack
3:30-6ish – play, crafts, another walk, go outside, etc.
6ish – dinner
7:30-8 – milk and bedtime

Milestones:

He has had a language explosion since the last post, particularly in the past month or so. It seems like he picks up a few new words every day. He’s starting to put words together to form rudimentary 2-3 word sentences (Nate eat, hold you, go up there, etc.).

He has started using the sign for “all done” again, but he also says it. He also still signs water and dog (though he uses the words simultaneously).

He is climbing on ALL the things.

He’s starting to be able to describe things.. like for instance if his food is hot versus cold, where something is located, where certain people are (at work, in the car), etc.

He is also starting to understand more how things work. He knows you point a remote at the TV, put the phone to your ear, wash with soap, etc.

He is still on the go most of the time, but he’s starting to sit still for longer periods of time for things like reading books. He still won’t sit still for a movie, but we can get him to watch videos sometimes, provided they aren’t super long.

He can now identify all the parts of his body.

We’ve started to notice some of the “terrible 2s” behavior. When he’s frustrated, he’ll sometimes hit or pinch. He’ll also throw himself onto the floor and scream when he’s mad. Still, he mostly has a pretty good temperament most of the time.

He tries to dress himself. Big emphasis on tries.

He is getting pretty good at using utensils to eat.

He will occasionally ask to sit on the potty, and he likes being able to flush and wash his hands, but he hasn’t actually peed or pooped in the potty yet. I get the feeling he’ll probably be ready to start in another few months.

He can sort shapes, and can identify a few of them too.

He’s starting to understand colors. He mostly still thinks everything is blue, but we’re working on it!

His pacifier use has mostly just gone down to when he's sleeping. Unless he's having a particularly hard time with teething.

Things I want to remember about these few months:

Lots of snuggles when he’s teething!

We went on two road trips in the last few months. We drove all the way up to Michigan and back, and also took a long weekend trip to Marble Falls. He actually does surprisingly well in the car and we made lots of memories!

We celebrated Father’s day and the 4th of July.

His first haircut!

When I ask him “Who’s mommy’s baby?” he usually says either “Nay (Nate)” or “iss (sissy)”.

I really wish I had more good memories to share, but honestly, COVID has changed so much and we really just don’t get out much.

His favorite things:

Books – Goodnight Moon, 101 baby books about the Houston Astros and Texas Longhorns (yay!), If I were a Puppy, If I were a Kitty

Songs – Take me Out to the Ballgame, Thunder by Imagine Dragons, and Baby Shark

Activities – building blocks, playing with his cars, playing with big sister, reading, dancing, eating, climbing, jumping on the trampoline, playing in the water

Things – cars, animals, loud toys, bubbles, anything and everything he isn’t supposed to touch, babies (particularly his cousin, Maddie. All babies are Maddie to him)

Things he doesn’t like:

being tired or hungry, when bath time is over, when we can’t understand what he wants, being told ‘no’, not getting his way

And now, the pictures!

The picture is blurry because he never stops moving!

We were traveling this year for the 4th of July. We spent it in an amazing farmhouse in Illinois. Here's little man enjoying the pond and playset the hosts had

Hiding?

Collecting sticks in Marble Falls

Climbing on ALL the things

Right after his very first haircut!
