Stats:
Weight: he’s just shy of 30 pounds, 65%
Height: at his checkup, he was
measuring 34.5 inches (62%) but I honestly think he might be a little taller. He
was not standing totally straight
Size: 2T shirts, 18-24 or 24
month pants. Size 5 diapers, size 6 shoes
Appearance: Not much change
from the last post, but he has definitely gotten taller and more bulky
Food:
Still a pretty good eater, but
we have been seeing a little more of the picky toddler factor lately. He loves
fruit, yogurt, mac n cheese, bread, and cookies. He’s also gotten super into
popsicles lately.
Sleep:
No major change from last
time. He is waking up slightly earlier most mornings, but I think this is
because Mia is in school, and also because of daylight savings time. We also
pushed his bedtime slightly earlier to adjust for Mia also going to bed earlier
for school. His naps are rarely longer than an hour these days (though he does
seem to nap slightly better on the weekends), but I’m honestly just glad he
still takes one. He’s still in his crib, and I’m hoping to keep him in there
for at least another 6 months before we try out the toddler bed. We’ve had a
few rough nights with teething, but for the most part he’s still sleeping about
11-12 hours at night.
His eat/sleep schedule:
6:30-7a – wake up and have breakfast
7:30-11ish – play, watch Sesame Street
11:30ish – lunch
12:30-2 - nap
2:30-3 – snack and get sissy from school
3:30-6ish – play, crafts, go for a walk, go outside, etc.
6ish – dinner
7:30 – milk and bedtime
Milestones:
He’s had another major language
explosion in the past few months. He regularly speaks in 3-5 word sentences
(sometimes longer) and we can understand most of what he says now. He’s also in
the ‘parrot’ phase, and copies just about everything we say. Most of the time,
he still refers to himself in the 3rd person (‘Nate do it’ is one of
his favorites) but he is shifting more to using 1st person pronouns
(I do, I can’t, etc.).
He is really good at puzzles
and sorting shapes.
He mostly has his colors down!
Sometimes he still gets it wrong, but he’s definitely improved from calling
everything blue!
He’s been really insistent on ‘helping’
and being more independent these days.
He is getting very interested in
the potty, but we’ve had relatively few successful attempts. He can usually
recognize when he needs to go #2, but he usually just sits on the potty for a
bit, then goes in his diaper shortly afterwards. He’s also staying drier during
the day and at night. We’re heading in the right direction!
His memory is improving. If
you asked him what he did in a particular day, he can usually recall most of
the things that he did.
He can (kind of?) count. He
once counted to 7 successfully, but usually it’s just “one, two, free” followed
by random numbers.
He has gone down to mostly
just using his paci for sleeping, but he does still like to have it close by on
days where his molars are giving him a lot of trouble.
I wouldn’t say he has “stranger
danger” as he’s not really scared of strangers, but he doesn’t talk as much and
always wants us nearby if we’re around people he doesn’t know. He was giving
his doctor lots of side-eye at his latest check-up!
He’s finally to a place where
he can sit still and watch TV or a video on our phones. We still usually only
get about 10 minutes, but it’s something.
He’s moved from his highchair
to a booster seat at the table.
So far, he seems to be a
slightly better listener than Mia was at his same age. He still is definitely
testing boundaries, but we don’t have to say ‘no’ quite as many times to him as
we did to her at the same age.
Things I want to remember
about these few months:
He loves reading and playing
blocks!
He absolutely loves being
outside. He likes to go for walks, swing, blow bubbles, look for rocks, and
ride Pop’s tractor!
Halloween looked different
this year. We didn’t go trick-or-treating, but we still got to dress up! He
decided he wanted to be spiderman this year.
Adjusting to sissy being at
school full time now. He’s done really well and seems to enjoy his one-on-one
time with mom and dad (who’s still working from home these days!).
We had a great two-part
Thanksgiving at Nana’s and then at Baba’s!
We had a min-birthday
celebration for him with a drive-thru zoo and lunch in Gruene.
He enjoyed “helping” decorate
for Christmas.
We’re seeing more ‘toddler
like’ behavior these days for sure! Hoping that the twos aren’t too terrible!
His favorite things:
Books – Any books about vehicles,
The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Elmo’s colors, Pete the Cat books
Songs – CocoMelon songs,
Wheels on the Bus, Happy Birthday, Take me out to the Ballgame, Happy Dance
from Elmo’s world
Activities – building blocks,
playing with his cars, playing with big sister, reading, climbing, jumping on
the trampoline, throwing things, riding on his car and bike, going for walks,
picking up rocks, leaves, and sticks, puzzles, looking at pictures, riding Pop’s
tractor
Watching – Sesame Street, CocoMelon,
any show with animals
Things – all vehicles and
things that go (particularly fire trucks and airplanes), watching Elmo, animals
(birds and dogs seem to be a favorite), hide and seek
Things he doesn’t like:
Diaper changes, falling down,
when we try to buckle him into the stroller, booster, or car seat (he prefers
doing it himself), being told ‘no’
And now, the pictures!
