Stats:
Weight: 62nd percentile
Height: 78th
percentile
Size: mostly 2t shorts (for the
waist), 3t for shirts and PJs for the most part, but for some of the brands
that run a little smaller he needs 4t. Size 8 shoes and size 5 diapers (or
2t/3t pullups)
Appearance: in the past 6
months, he’s gained about 2 pounds and grew almost 3 inches. He definitely
looks more like a little boy now and less like a toddler.
Food:
His food preferences have
stayed mostly the same, but he is a little pickier than he used to be. We’ve
introduced juice into the equation, which he can have occasionally. We also
switched over to 1% milk which is what the rest of the family drinks. He loves
cheese, most fruit, oatmeal, waffles, mac n cheese, fries, bread, carrots,
cucumbers, tomatoes, and any kind of chip or cracker
Sleep:
His sleep schedule has changed
very little in the past 6 months. He sleeps in slightly later than he used to,
but otherwise the same. He sleeps 11-12 hours most nights, and naps usually
1-1.5 hours. His schedule will probably change slightly now that Mia is home
for the summer, but we’ll try to keep it as consistent as possible.
His eat/sleep schedule:
7-7:30a – wake up and have breakfast
8-11ish – play, watch something educational
11:30ish – lunch and play outside
12:30-2p - nap
2:30-3 – snack and tablet time
3:30-6ish – play, crafts, go for a walk, go outside, etc.
6ish – dinner
6:30-7 – play, get ready for bed, bath, etc.
7-7:30 – story and bed
Milestones:
Talking continues to improve.
We can understand what he says about 90% of the time, and other people can
understand him about 75% of the time. He’s also getting better with pronoun
usage (him, her, she, he, they, etc.), and mostly uses the first person now
instead of referring to himself as “Nate”.
He is starting to understand
and remember that people in his family have names (ie mommy is named Whitney,
not mommy).
We made 2 major potty training
attempts in the past 6 months, but neither were successful. He does, however,
want to use the potty more and more these days, so we’re hoping to be out of
diapers by the end of the summer!
He’s engaging in a lot more
independent play. He does still like to play with us, but he is also fairly
content to just build blocks or whatever by himself for short periods of time.
Screens still do not hold his attention
for very long. Sometimes he’ll sit through an entire 20-30 minute TV episode,
but generally he’ll be doing other things and only watching some.
We transitioned him from the
crib into the toddler bed about 3 months ago! I was actually hoping to keep him
in his crib longer, but he was climbing out regularly, so we just went ahead
with the toddler bed. The transition was actually pretty smooth; we had a few
nights where he was getting in and out of bed, but for the most part, he’s done
well with it.
He has gone down to only using
his pacifier to fall asleep. Once he’s sleeping, it falls out of his mouth and
he usually doesn’t put it back in.
He has gotten more interested in
art and coloring in the last few months.
He can count to five (10 with
help), knows all his colors, and most of his shapes. He can differentiate
letters from numbers, but can’t identify any one specific letter or number yet.
We have definitely gotten to
the ‘why’ phase. He asks SO MANY questions.
Still a little wary of new
people, but he does warm up pretty quickly.
He got a balance bike for his
birthday and can already kick his feet off the ground while he rides it.
Things I want to remember
about these few months:
When he doesn’t like something
or doesn’t want to do something he’ll say “No, that a bad idea!”
We started swim lessons!
He loves running and climbing,
and unless he’s asleep he’s ALWAYS moving.
He hasn’t been a snuggler for
a while now, but he loves to give hugs (particularly running hugs!).
We had a great trip to
Kalahari just after his birthday, and we had a nice Christmas at home. We also
went to Corpus Christi for a quick weekend getaway! We also celebrated Easter
and he got three Easter baskets!
We had two big snows this
year, one in January and one in February. He absolutely loved playing in the
snow!
His favorite things:
Books – he still really loves
reading! Books about the potty have gotten popular, but he still loves books
about trucks and animals
Songs – CocoMelon songs, Thunder
by Imagine Dragons, anything from Elmo’s World, the Transformers theme song
Activities – blocks, reading,
throwing, playing outside, jumping, swinging, swimming, running, playing
baseball, playing “super heroes”
Watching – CocoMelon, Daniel
Tiger, Bubble Guppies, Transformers, anything with superheroes
Things – all vehicles and
things that go (particularly fire trucks and airplanes), animals, books, superheroes,
the garbage truck
Things he doesn’t like:
Diaper changes, when we try to
buckle him into the stroller, booster, or car seat (he prefers doing it himself),
cleaning up, when it rains and he can’t play outside
