Mia, Month Ten

Stats:

Weight:  18.4 pounds. We got a digital scale finally, so her in between appointments measurements will be more accurate.

Height: 29 inches

Size: Some 9 month clothes still fit, but for the most part we’ve moved up to 12 month clothing. She’s in size 3 diapers.

Appearance: She seems to have grown up so much this month! She’s looking more like a toddler and less like a little baby (bittersweet for mama!). Her hair has also filled in quite a bit more.

Food:

We have continued to introduce more and more “real food” into her diet this month. I didn’t keep a log of everything she’s eaten, but her favorites seem to be cheese, bread and any kind of fry (particularly sweet potato!). She’s a carbo-holic just like me! We try to expose her to one new fruit and one new veggie every week. We haven’t yet introduced any kind of meat. She does have some of the purees with meat, but she never seems interested in them, so we’ve been holding off on that one.

We are still during purees three times a day and she’s also still getting breastmilk three times a day (one breast feed, 2 bottles generally). I went down to one nursing session because aside from in the morning, she doesn’t seem too interested in nursing anymore. I think her brain is just so busy all day that she doesn’t think she has time to be ‘wasting’ on nursing. She also started biting. A lot. And nothing I was doing was working to stop it. I had a little bit of a crying session over all of this, but as long as she’s still getting breastmilk, I’m okay. Part of me will miss nursing her, but the other part knows that she’s just growing up. I have to pump about three times a day to keep the bottles filled, but I’m still determined to keep it up for another two months!

She’s a lot better with water in the sippy cup. She generally drinks about 2 cupfuls of water per day.

Her eating schedule is roughly something like this: 7:30 am- nurse, 9:30- purees, 12 pm- bottle (4-5 oz.) and a snack, 2 – purees, 4- purees, 6- dinner (some kind of “real food”), 8 – bottle (6-8 oz.). Sometimes she’ll have some puffs or cheerios in between or in addition to these feeds.

Sleep:

Teething has made sleep a little more restless this past month. She still sleeps through the night (11-12 hours) but she has these little moments 2-3 times each night where she kind of cries out. It’s not really crying, and she’s not really awake. Usually this happens because her paci falls out or she realizes that it’s no longer in her mouth. It’s pretty easy to calm her down, she either finds the paci herself, or we go put it back in for her, either way she goes right back to sleep. Still the sleep interruptions are not so much fun for mommy and daddy. She’s asleep by 8 or 8:15 every night and there were even a few nights where she went down at 7:30 with no issue. Wake up times have been kind of all over the map this month. At the beginning of the month, she was waking up around 6-6:30 each morning. Then, for about a week she was sleeping until 8. Since daylight savings time, she’s been sleeping until about 7:15-7:30.

Naps are still so/so, but holding steady from last month. She generally sleeps 45 minutes-1 hour in the morning and 1 hour-1.5 hours in the afternoon. She starts her naps between 9-10 am and between 2-3 pm. 

Milestones:

Still no more teeth, though I’m pretty sure both of her top central incisors are working their way in. She’s been having a lot of teething symptoms this month, particularly in the last week or so.

She can stand unsupported for about 10 seconds before she falls over.

She is a speed crawler when she wants something.

I’m pretty sure she’s started signing a little bit. She kind of waves her hands in front of her (overlapping) which I think means ‘more’. She also does ‘all done’, but for some reason, she only does one hand at a time instead of both, so it kind of looks like waving. She also puts her whole hand in front of her mouth when it’s time to ‘eat’.

She gets ridiculously excited when it’s time to eat. Milk, food, purees, she’s not picky!

She has three words at the moment that she associates with actual things, ‘mama’, ‘dada’ and ‘ah’ (Luna). Aside from these, she does still babble a lot.

She’s started dancing a little bit on her own. When she hears music while she’s standing up, she bends her knees and moves her torso from side to side.

She’s figured out waving! Now she waves at everyone (and everything!).

She can kind of clap, but sometimes it’s hard for me to distinguish if she’s just clapping or if she wants ‘more’ of something.

Mia had her first experience with an outside the family babysitter. We were having a party for Jason’s 30^th birthday at his parents’ house, and she stayed home. She did great and got  a good report!

She loves sleeping with her stuffed longhorn. That’s my girl!

It is getting insanely hard to dress her or change her diaper. Our Wiggles never wants to be  still!

Things I want to remember about this month:

She hates having her face wiped after eating.

After nursing each morning, the first thing she does is start yelling ‘ah!’, looking for Luna.  She gets really excited when we finally find her.

Puppies licking her always make her giggle.

She loves going for walks.

She loves splashing in the bathtub and always tries to drink the water while I’m rinsing her off.

We got to visit with lots of family this month!

Mia had her first St. Patrick’s day and wore an adorable outfit that I actually bought last year on clearance while I was still pregnant. I was hoping she’d fit into it at the time, and she did!

We had our first annual bluebonnet photo shoot! A must for any Texas baby J

I love going into her room in the morning to get her from her crib and hear “mama!”. Best thing ever.

Bath time fun!

She has walking around her room pretty much covered. She grabs onto whatever she can!

Here, we were eating egg and cheese. Then, we decided it also made a great hair product.

First St. Patrick's Day!

Beautiful spring day in the bluebonnets! And yes, that is drool.
